Working with Internal Disk Drives
Working with Internal Disk Drives
Drives are devices that your system uses to store and retrieve data.
This section explains how you can increase the expansion unit
capacity by adding more drives and replacing existing drives with
larger capacity ones.
Your expansion unit contains hardware that lets you replace a failed
hard disk drive without turning off the expansion unit. Therefore,
you have the advantage of continuing to operate your system while
a hard disk drive is removed or installed. These drives are known
as hot-swap drives.
All hard disk drives are housed in portable drive trays that plug
directly into one of ten drive bays on the front of the expansion
unit. Above each drive bay on the expansion unit front panel there
are two LEDs, which indicate the status for that particular drive.
