13. Connect the new hard drive to the IDE cable and the power cable.
14. Attach the hard drive to the base of the chassis with its four screws.
15. Reinstall the cover on the chassis using the instructions in “Reinstalling the
Cover” on page 2-5.
16. Install the system card and adapters.
17. Attach an ASCII terminal to the IBM 2212 as described in Chapter 3,
“Accessing the IBM 2212” on page 3-1.
18. Power on the IBM 2212 by plugging in the power cord.
19. The hard drive is shipped without code. Therefore, you must load operational
software and configuration files on the hard drive. To do so:
a. Access the
SVC>
prompt. (See “Accessing the Service Recovery Prompt
(SVC>)” on page E-4.)
b. Enter into Vital Product Data (VPD) the serial number of the defective IBM
2212 chassis. The serial number is printed on the back of the IBM 2212.
For instructions on entering the serial number into the VPD, see “Entering
Vital Product Data” on page E-14.
c. From the
SVC>
prompt:
1) TFTP code and configuration files from your network server to the hard
file. (See “Transferring Files Using TFTP” on page E-20.) If there is no
backup copy of the configuration files on a network server, the IBM
2212 must be reconfigured.
2) Using the copy command available at the
SVC>
prompt, copy the
contents into the other bank on the hard drive. (See “Copying a File
Using the Copy Command” on page E-17.)
3) If you changed the boot settings (for example, boot from system card
flash), use the bootmode command and choose normal boot from disk.
(See “Accessing the Service Recovery Prompt (SVC>)” on page E-4.)
4) Type reboot and press Enter.
5) Verify the LEDs. See “LED Indicators” on page 1-2.
20. The IBM 2212 model number has now changed from a 10F to a 10H. Write the
new model number on a label. Post this label on the exterior of the chassis,
covering the old model number.
21. Notify the network administrator that you are finished.
