6 Connecting, switching on and operating the FCU
6.1 Electrical connection
On the back of the FCU is a socket for connecting to 24 V DC (see Figure 4 Page 79).
Connect the jack plug of the power supply to the socket. The power supply itself must be
connected to the supply voltage specified in the type code.
Type code :
K : 120 VAC / 60 Hz / 1 Phase
M : 230 VAC / 50 Hz / 1 Phase
N : 240 VAC / 50 Hz / 1 Phase
O : 240 VAC / 50 Hz / 1 Phase
P : 100 VAC / 50 Hz / 1 Phase
Now the FCU can be switched on and off using the ON/OFF switch on the back, (see
Figure 4 Page 79).
The FCU is fitted with re-chargeable batteries which enable measurement independent of
the mains
(Online printing and Display illumination switched off)
for up to 3 hours.
The batteries are re-charged when connected to the mains, irrespective of whether the
FCU is switched on or off.
The nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries fitted in the FCU should not be charged before they
are empty because of the memory effect. (The memory effect arises through partial
discharge of the battery cells and results in a continuous reduction in available capacity
until finally the connected unit can only be used for a few minutes.)
This means that once the FCU has been disconnected from the mains, if possible it
should not be operated via the mains until the message
battery low
is displayed.
Battery care:
We recommend that the batteries are discharged fully once a month.
(Leave the FCU switched on until the display disappears)
