translation (FC-NAT). Using FC-NAT, the proxy devices in a fabric can have different PIDs than the real
devices that they represent, allowing the proxy devices to have appropriate PIDs for the address space of
their corresponding fabric.
Setting up the FC–FC routing service
To set up the FC–FC Routing Service, perform the following tasks in the order listed:
• Verify that you have the proper setup for FC–FC routing. (See ” Verifying the setup for FC–FC routing ”.)
• Assign backbone FIDs. (See ” Backbone FIDs ” on page 377.)
• Configure FCIP tunnels if you are connecting Fibre Channel SANs over IP-based networks. (See ” FCIP
tunnel configuration ” on page 378.)
• Configure IFLs for edge and backbone fabric connection. (See ” Interfabric link configuration ” on
page 378.)
• Modify port cost for EX_Ports, if you want to change from the default settings. (See ” FC Router port cost
configuration ” on page 383.)
• Configure trunking on EX_Ports that are connected to the same edge fabric. (See ” EX_Port frame
trunking configuration ” on page 384.)
• Configure LSAN zones to enable communication between devices in different fabrics. (See ” LSAN zone
configuration ” on page 386.)
See Chapter 10, ” Configuring Enterprise-class platforms ” on page 267 for more details about
configuration options for Brocade directors.
Verifying the setup for FC–FC routing
Before configuring a fabric to connect to another fabric, you must perform the following verification checks
on the FC router.
1. Log in to the switch or director as admin and enter the
version
command to command and verify that
Fabric OS 6.1 is installed on the FC router, as shown in the following example.

2. Perform the following appropriate action, based on the hardware model you are configuring:
• If you are configuring the HP StorageWorks 4/256 SAN Director, enter the
slotShow
command
to verify that the B-Series Multi-Protocol Router Blade is present. Proceed to step 3 .
• If you are configuring the HP StorageWorks DC SAN Backbone Director or HP StorageWorks DC04
SAN Director Switch, enter the
slotShow
command to verify that either the B-Series Multi-Protocol
Router Blade is present or, if configuring EX_Ports on an 8-Gb/s port blade, that the HP
StorageWorks SAN Director 16 Port 8Gb FC blade, HP StorageWorks SAN Director 32 Port 8Gb
FC blade, or HP StorageWorks SAN Director 48 Port 8Gb FC blade is present. Proceed to step 4 .
The following example shows slot 2 with the B-Series Multi-Protocol Router Blade and slots 3, 9, 10,
and 12 with 8-Gb/s port blades enabled.
