Vehicle care 199
Dilution
When a vehicle is frequently driven
on short trips, the engine often
fails to reach normal operating
temperatures:
• The oil becomes diluted by fuel
and moisture that settles in the
oil pan.
• This may raise the oil level
creating a false reading on the
engine oil dipstick.
For example, in a vehicle that has
accumulated 1,500 km of short
distance or intermittent city operation
and has consumed a normal amount
of oil, the level may not have
dropped from the area/mark (H), due
to dilution. If this vehicle is driven for
some distance at highway speeds,
the dilution elements evaporate,
resulting in a sudden drop in oil
level.
If you are still concerned that
the engine has excessive oil
consumption, contact a Holden
Dealer.
Engine coolant
Checking fluid level
Check at least once a week by
looking at the level from outside the
container.
Refill the coolant reservoir:
• If the level is lower than the
MIN
line
• When the engine is cool
• To the
MAX
line
Check the cooling system for
leaks first.
Note
Engine oil consumption should not
be judged before 10,000 km.
Automatic transmission
fluid level
The fluid level will be checked when
the vehicle is serviced. Refer to the
Service/Warranty Booklet. It does
not require checking in between the
scheduled services.
