SMS enables you to send text messages to other SMS-enabled telephones in the fixed net-
work or to mobile telephones, and to receive these messages from them. After transmis-
sion, the SMSs are displayed on the terminal's display.
Depending on the terminal, predefined or user-created SMSs can be sent. An SMS is
entered using the telephone keypad. Costs are charged for transmitting an SMS. Please
ask your service provider about the costs incurred for sending or receiving SMSs.
It is possible to send and receive SMSs using analogue and ISDN telephones that support
this performance feature. The length of an SMS is terminal-dependent and can be up to
612 characters. An SMS is entered using the keypad on the telephone or system tele-
phone.
Note
Every telephone can send an SMS if the performance feature is available on your
ISDN connection and is supported by the telephone. An SMS is sent via an SMS ser-
vice provider, which is specified by the telephone.
A telephone can only receive an SMS if the following conditions are met:
• The receive of SMSs is registered for your ISDN connection and the relevant external
telephone numbers (call SMS server of service provider and start registration procedure).
• The telephone numbers of the SMS services providers that transmit SMSs are stored in
the telephone and in the device.
• The internal telephone is authorised to receive SMSs.
• The telephone with authorisation to receive SMSs must be entered in the call allocation
of the external telephone number. Within the call allocation, you can only enter one tele-
phone (analogue or ISDN) with SMS receipt authorisation, so that the SMSs can be sent
directly to this telephone.
Note
If call forwarding is set up for the authorised terminal in which the terminal is entered, it
is possible that SMSs cannot be received.
