FRONT SUSPENSION AND STEERING
Read section A and B completely prior to operation or repair of golf car
C-12
Remove the front wheels, and remove from spindle the dust cap (14), cotter pin (15), castellated nut (16),
exterior roller bearing (18), and hub splice plate (17) (Ref Fig. C9). Use relatively soft Nonferrous punch
to tap the periphery of exterior hub bearing race, and remove the inner shaft oil seal (20), inner roller
bearing (18), and bearing race (19). Tap the punch circularly so as not to damage the bore in hub splice
plate. Clean all bearings, shaft seals, hubs, and dust cap in solvent and dry thoroughly. Inspect for signs
of damage. Pitting or a blue coloration of the rollers will require replacement of the bearing. If the roller
portion of the bearing is to be replaced, the race must also be replaced.
Fig. C9: Wheel Bearing Replacement
The front wheel bearings are tapered roller type and must be packed with grease at installation or any
time the bearing is removed for inspection. It is recommended that a bearing packer attached to a
grease gun be used; however, manual packing is acceptable if done correctly.
To pack a bearing manually requires that a dab of grease be placed in the palm of the hand and the
bearing be dipped in the grease. Force the grease up through and around all of the rollers until the entire
bearing is saturated in grease. Pack with grease the space between rollers, and apply a layer of grease
onto the bearing race. Install the bearing onto the bottom race.
SEAL INSTALLATION
Remove the grease on the hub seal, and press in the inner shaft seal via the sealing flange that faces
the pore passage. Tap it with seal installation tool till it is flush with the outer surface of the hub assembly.
Use light oil to lubricate the surface of the seal (Ref Fig. C10).
The seal ring removed must be replaced with a new one.
