BATTERY AND CHARGER
Read section A and B completely prior to operation or repair of golf car
J-5
Water filling devices may be applied only when the electrolyte level is not more than 1/2 inch
(13mm) higher over the top of the plate.
Cleaning the Battery
Prior to cleaning the exterior surface and terminals of battery, the water pipe for cleaning must be
cleaned with a solution of sodium acid carbonate (baking soda) so as to neutralize the acid sediments.
Fig. J 3: Automatic Watering Gun
If acid neutralization is not conducted prior to using the water pipe, water may take the acid on top of the
battery to other positions or storage devices of the vehicle when cleaning such that the metal structure or
concrete / asphalt floor may be corroded. After the battery is rinsed with water pipe, some conductive
materials may remain on the battery, which may cause the battery to discharge.
To prevent the battery from being damaged, ensure that all top caps of battery are buckled
securely.
As per the correct cleaning method, use solution of sodium acid carbonate (baking soda) and water to
rinse the top and sides of the battery. It is recommended to rinse the solution by gardening sprayer with
nonmetallic spray rod
. The solution should be a mixture of 60ml of sodium acid carbonate (baking
soda) and 6 gallons of fresh water (Ref Fig. J4). Besides the battery, take notice of the metal
components neighboring the battery, which should be rinsed with the solution of sodium acid carbonate
(baking soda) as well.
Keep the solution for three minutes at least; use soft scrubbing brush or cloth to wipe the top of battery
so as to prevent the residual from causing the battery to discharge automatically. Use low air pressure
fresh water to rinse the whole battery. All devices for battery cleaning and rinsing are stored inside the
FAIRPLAY battery maintenance kit.
Cleaning should be conducted once a month, or more frequently in case of harsh environment.
