6–6 IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
Connect leads in the order shown in the
picture:
1. Connect one end of the first jumper lead
to the positive terminal of the battery pro-
viding the jump start(identified by "+" sign
on battery case or terminal).
2
Connect the other end of this lead to the
positive terminal of the discharged bat-
tery("+" sign).
3. Connect the first end of the other jumper
lead to the negative terminal of the bat-
tery providing the jump start (identified
by "–").
4. Connect the other end of the second
jumper lead to ground on the other ve-
hicle e.g. engine block or screw connec-
tion in engine suspension.
Do not connect lead to negative terminal
of discharged battery!
The connection point should be as far
away from the discharged battery as
possible.
Route the leads so that cannot catch on
rotating parts in the engine compartment.
5. The engine of the vehicle providing the
jump start can be allowed to run during
starting.
Attempts to start the engine of the ve-
hicle with the discharged battery should
be made at intervals of one minute and
should not last longer than 15 seconds.
After starting, allow both engines to idle
for approx. 10 minutes with the leads still
connected.
6. Turn off the engine, then carefully dis-
connect the jumper leads in the reverse
order of connection.
CAUTION
The audio system could be on when
starting the engine with jumper leads
and damage the system.
Switch off audio system.
CAUTION
Trying to start your vehicle by push-
ing or pulling it could damage the
catalytic converter and automatic
transmission.
Do not try to start your vehicle by
pushing or pulling it.
