2–8 STARTING AND OPERATING
Selector Lever Positions P, R and N
P = Park, with the front wheels locked. To
be selected only with the vehicle sta-
tionary and the parking brake on.
R = Reverse. To be engaged only with the
vehicle stationary.
N = Neutral.
WARNING
Vehicle can move suddenly when
unattended.
• Turn off engine, apply parking
brake fully and remove ignition
key when leaving the vehicle.
• Do not use "P" (Park) position in
place of the parking brake.
• Never leave the vehicle unattended
while the engine is running.
NOTE
Fuel is automatically cut off when
the engine is "racing" (running at
high speed) with selector lever posi-
tion "P" or "N".

conditions in first to fourth gear.
Fourth gear(the overdrive gear) reduces en-
gine speed, fuel consumption and the engine
noise level.
After the engine has been started and "D
