Data Output Formats
The INVOS™ system data can be outputted via the USB and digital output ports in real-time and
case history formats. It can be accessed and graphed on a personal computer using a common
spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel (see section
Graph Data Files—rSO2 versus Time
Stored data files created by the INVOS™ system are automatically named by the software using
the date (YYMMDD) followed by a letter indicating the type of recording (N = Normal run func-
tion, C = control, I = intervention) and a file extension consisting of a letter (H = history, or R = real-
time) and a sequence number. For example, a case history file recorded on September 13, 2009
in Normal run function would have a filename of 090913N.H1. An asterisk (*) indicates a desatura-
tion of ≥20% from baseline or <40 rSO
2
values occurred during the case.
Up to 24 hours of data may be stored per case file. When data storage exceeds 24 hours or mid-
night is reached, a new case file will be started.
It is necessary to parse the data when entering it into a spreadsheet before charting. Follow the
spreadsheet software supplier’s directions to proceed.
The USB output data formats are the same for two-channel and four-channel software versions.
When two-channel data is being displayed, the data for channels 3 and 4 will be zeros.
The digital output data format 1 and 2 are the same for two-channel and four-channel software
versions. For two-channel software versions, format 1 and 2 include zeros for the fields that corre-
spond to channels 3 and 4. The digital output data format 3 (two-channel only) outputs data for
channels 1 and 2.
