C
Case history
Refers to data relating to oxygen saturation levels and status that can be downloaded at the end
of a case.
Connection port
Any of the various inputs or outputs on or relating to the sensor and the INVOS™ system monitor.
CPU board
Central processing unit board. Uses application software to control sequencing of the unit and
perform diagnostic functions.
CT scan
A diagnostic procedure employing a computerized axial tomography (CT) scanner to obtain sec-
tional images of the internal structure of the body. Used for greater sensitivity in showing the rela-
tionship of various internal structures.
D
Default
Indicates the automatically preset parameters (field entries) relating to the INVOS™ system moni-
tor. The parameters are adjustable within established limits.
DIB board
The digital interface board (DIB) controls communication between the preamplifier connection
and the CPU board. Distributes power to components and provides voltage to charge the battery.
Distributor
Any of the various persons (companies) authorized to distribute the INVOS™ system in conjunc-
tion with agreements between the manufacturer and the distributor.
E
ESD
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is momentary unwanted current that flows when an excess of elec-
tric charge occurs. It can damage the electronic equipment if this current exceeds the allowable
limit.
Event and event mark
A relatively important occurrence relating to medical operations (such as meds administration,
cross clamp, etc.) that can be marked on the INVOS™ system.
A built-in feature of the INVOS™ system monitor allowing time marking of various events (on a
graph or screen) that may occur during patient monitoring.
