- Digital zoom continuously changes the field of view (approx. 3.6x ; approx. 14x magnification
when combined with optical zoom)
The PowerShot G3 can adjust the field angle by up to a maximum of 14 times (35 mm film equivalent: 35 to 490
mm) by combining a 3.6-times digital zoom magnification with the optical four-times zoom lens.
Furthermore, several dozen image input positions are calibrated for the monitor display to ensure a smooth
digital zoom of the image on the monitor display. The actual zoom position can be stopped in six positions
including both end positions in consideration of practicality.
Due to fast signal processing, the optical zoom and digital zoom are driven at nearly the same speed so that no
peculiarity is sensed in operation (during switchover).
- Super intelligent (SI) sensor automatically detects vertical or horizontal photography
The PowerShot G3 employs the same SI sensor as the IXY DIGITAL 200a/300a. The SI sensor detects
orientation and can determine if the camera is held vertically or horizontally when taking a picture.
By using this feature, photographs taken vertically are
displayed vertically on the LCD monitor during replay
and horizontally oriented photographs are shown horizontally.
Furthermore, when printing with the Camera direct print
function compatible CP-10 or CP-100 printer, the orientation
is automatically detected and the date can be inserted in the
right of lower corner the prints. In the same way, layouts
using ZoomBrowser EX/ImageBrowser automatically detect
and account for the photo’s orientation.
