WARNING: The fan controllers contain high voltage capacitors that take time to discharge after removal of mains supply.
Before working on the fan controller, ensure isolation of mains supply from line inputs at the fan controller’s disconnect if
installed. Wait three (3) minutes for capacitors to discharge to safe voltage levels. Failure to do so may result in personal
injury or death. Darkened display LEDs are not an indication of safe voltage levels.
CAUTION: The Big Ass Fans product warranty will not cover equipment damage or failure that is caused by improper
installation.

9.1 - Modbus wiring overview
The Modbus RTU protocol is used for communication with fans over a two-wire RS-485 network. Each fan or device requires a unique
serial address. The following pages detail the setup and connections unique to each supported type of fan. Two basic wiring layouts are
shown below. The first illustrates multiple daisy chained drops with the gateway located on one end of the Modbus loop. The second
illustrates the same fan drop arrangement with the gateway in a central location. Either scenario will handle up to 32 unique serial
addresses.
