8.6 Maintenance
AvL Antenna systems are designed such that any wear should never degrade performance below
specifications and essentially no maintenance should ever be required. However, since it is impossible to
ascertain or test for all possible environments, the following checkup is recommended each year. If any
problems are observed, refer to section 8.6 in order to contact Customer Service.
8.6.1 Annual Inspection
Azimuth
Check for unusual noise in the azimuth bearing, the azimuth gearbox and the azimuth
motor.
Run in azimuth and check for unusual noise in the azimuth motor.
Check the position of the azimuth drive cables on capstan at 0° Azimuth.
Check the drive cables for damage.
Run both Az. limits and observe cable tracking.
Check for excessive backlash in the gearbox.
Inspect cable connections and tensions.
Inspect the Azimuth potentiometer for looseness, damage or dirt.
