Stator current limiter
The stator current limiter (SCL) limits the stator current of the generator. It operates by decreasing
excitation when the stator current reaches the maximum capacity of an overexcited synchronous
machine. If the machine is underexcited, the SCL increases excitation. This limiter reduces the current
to avoid the stator winding overheating and its inverse time delay allows for a short time overload
during grid disturbances. If the active power is high, the stator current cannot be lowered by changing
the excitation. In such a case an alarm signal is issued.
