ENGINE

Service Manual
4
Start the engine and put the engine speed switch in the LOW SPEED position. The tachometer should
read 1200 RPM. If the tachometer reading is too high or too low...
•
Gasoline machines only - adjust the hex plunger on the anti-dieseling solenoid (see Figure 3) for 1200
RPM.
•
LP machines only - adjust the idle speed adjustment screw (see Figure 3) for 1200 RPM.
5
Look on the air filter cannister for a decal with engine speed specifications. If there is a decal on the air
filter, the high engine speed should be adjusted to the speed called for on the decal. If there is no decal
on the air filter, the high engine speed should be set to 2600 RPM.
6
Put the engine speed switch in the HIGH SPEED position. If the tachometer reading is too high or too
low, adjust the MAX screw in the governor controller (see Figure 2) for the proper speed.
CAUTION!
When adjusting the screws in the governor controller, do not push on your screwdriver with excessive
force. Too much pressure can damage the small potentiometers in the controller.
7
If the engine hunts at high speed, adjust the DAMP screw in the governor controller so the engine runs
steadily.
