Capacitors
The drive intermediate circuit employs several electrolytic capacitors. Their lifespan
depends on the operating time of the drive, loading and ambient temperature. The lifespan
of the capacitor can be prolonged by lowering the ambient temperature.
It is not possible to predict a capacitor failure. The capacitor failure is usually followed by
damage to the unit and an input cable fuse failure, or a fault trip. Contact ABB if a capacitor
failure is suspected. Replacements are available from ABB. Do not use other than ABB
specified spare parts.
Reforming the capacitors
The capacitors must be reformed if the drive module has been stored for a year or more.
See page
for information on finding out the manufacturing date. For the reforming
instructions, see
Converter modules with electrolytic DC capacitors in the DC link,
capacitor reforming instructions
(3BFE64059629 [English]).
Memory unit
When a drive module is replaced, the parameter settings can be retained by transferring
the memory unit from the defective drive module to the new module. The memory unit is
located in the JCU control unit, see page
WARNING!
Do not remove or insert a memory unit when the drive module is
powered.
After power-up, the drive will scan the memory unit. If a different application program or
different parameter settings are detected, they are copied to the drive. This may take
several minutes.
