data rate of between 50 and 100 Mbit/s,
resulting in 24 to 48 GB per hour.
Focus
Focus should by default be AF MEDIUM
(not AF LARGE). If you want to verify that
the camera is properly focussed, press
FOCUS SUPPORT to zoom in a factor of
two, such that one pixel on the detector
corresponds to one pixel on the displays.
Make sure that FOCUS SUPPORT is off
(gray) before recording.
Camera settings
Check the setting in this chapter before
recording, and adjust if necessary. The
settings in this chapter can also be
adjusted during recording, using the
buttons and rockers on the camera.
The more you push the rockers away
from their centre position, the faster the
corresponding value will change.
AF: autofocus
If there is sufficient light such that the
aperture is not too big, or when the
distance to the objects to be filmed is
constant, you can turn off AUTOFOCUS.
If autofocus is on, the red light in the AF
button on the left side of the camera
head is on and the displays show ‘AF’.
To turn it off, press the AF button for 2
seconds; the red light in the button will
go off and the display no longer shows
AF.
You can check the focus by pressing
FOCUS SUPPORT; this will enlarge the
central part such that one pixel on the
detector matches one pixel on the
display. Do not forget to turn off focus
support before recording.
To focus automatically once when
autofocus is off, point at the object to
focus on and press the AF button shortly.
You can do this before as well as during
recording.
EXP: exposure
If the lighting conditions are reasonably
stable, turn off the auto-exposure (press
EXP on the left side of the camera head,
the red light in the button goes off
and the display no longer shows AE). If
necessary you can now manually adjust
the gain between 0 and 12 dB using the
TOUCHSCREEN. Increasing the gain will
increase the noise. You can also now
adjust the iris manually by using the IRIS
controller (see below).
If the lighting conditions vary during
a shot and the camera has to adjust
to this, turn on autoexposure. The
autoexposure can cause step wise
fluctuations in brightness.
In autoexposure mode some scenes can
contain areas that are too bright, which
is visible as zebra in the display (when
zebra is turned on). Some areas can
be too dark, however when increasing
brightness prevent zebra on too large a
percentage of the image.
WHT BAL: white balance
Make sure that the white balance is
correctly set. Zoom in onto a white
surface, for example a piece of paper,
and press the White balance button for
2 s. Both display show “white balancing”
and then after 1 to 5 sec “Done”. If this
does not happen on either display,
repeat the procedure until it does.
P: program
Press the program button to turn the
vergence crosshair on and off. The
vergence crosshair is visible in the
displays. To set the vergence plane, look
with both eyes through the displays and
look at the object that should be in the
vergence plane, that is in the plane of
the screen when displayed. Adjust the
vergence distance until the crosshairs in
both eyes overlap.
Focus
When autofocus is off, the focus
distance can be adjusted using the
