SYSTEM OVERVIEW OF THE 4635 LASER PRINTING SYSTEM

1/2 inch cartridge tape drive

Two different models of the 1/2 inch cartridge tape are used with
the 4635. One is an 18 track drive and the other is an 18/36
track drive. While many of the features of the two drives are the
same, there are some differences. Both 1/2 inch cartridge tape
drives have the following features:

•

An integrated controller and tape drive.

•

A fully-featured IBM 3480/3490 compatible cartridge tape
subsystem.

•

Uses a 3480/3490 type tape cartridge.

•

The tape drive is self-threading.

The 18 track drive has a control panel including a 16 character
message display for messages and error information while the
18/36 track drive has an 8 character display.

1. Scroll button. Advances the message display through a

menu list.

2. Select button. Selects or executes a given function.

3. Unload button. Causes a tape to be unloaded and released.

4. Density button. Displays tape density.

5. Power switch. Powers the tape drive on (1) or off (0).

6. Alert indicator. Flashes when your attention is required,

either:

•

When a permanent or hardware fault occurs

•

When the Alert indicator is directed to flash by the LOAD
DISPLAY command for a 'Cartridge Mount' message.

7. Message display. Displays tape drive messages, error codes,

and menu items.
