Diesel Gen-set Operation Instructions
83
3
The diesel engine hasn’t been warmed up before
increasing the load, so knocking sound is made due
to too big clearance between piston and cylinder
liner.
Remove the load, switch on
and load the Gen-set after it
changes into hot state in idle
running.
4
Knocking sound is made due to too serious wear
and tear of piston, piston ring and cylinder liner.
Replace the corresponding
part.
5
Knocking sound can be heard along the whole
engine body due to too serious wear and tear of
journals and bearing bushes of crankshaft.
Repair or replace the bearing.
6
The valve hits the top of piston due to too small
clearance of intake/exhaust valve or incorrect timing
of intake/exhaust.
Adjust valve clearance or
timing.
7
Individual cylinder doesn’t work to intensify
vibration of diesel engine.
Inspect fuel system and
troubleshoot.
8
Valve is broken (sudden and violent crash is made
due to damage to valve lock clamp, falling of valve
or breakage of piston)
Immediately stop for overhaul.
9
Squealing of air leakage is made at cylinder head
gasket.
Inspect bolt pretightening force
of cylinder head, and replace
the cylinder gasket if
necessary.
10
Knocking sound due to too serious wear and tear of
gears
Inspect and replace them.
11
Fixing bolt of the diesel engine is loose or damaged,
which intensifies vibration.
Tighten or replace the bolt.
12
Diesel engine is not concentric with alternator,
which intensifies vibration.
Inspect whether chassis is
deformed, and shock absorber
is disabled, and replace it if so.
3.
Unsteady running of diesel engine
Serial
number
Cause
Elimination method
1
Individual cylinder is ignited intermittently,
which makes oil erupt too violently thereby
knocking the cylinder.
Inspect fuel system.
2
Oil quantity and injection time of injection
pumps are inconsistent.
Inspect and adjust.
3
There is air in fuel system.
Discharge air in the fuel system
with method in instructions.
4
There is water in fuel system.
Discharge water in the fuel
system with fuel filter, or replace
the fuel.
5
Timing gear moves forward and backward.
Inspect fastening of gears.
