3.10 Hand Held PC connection
The ProStar325 detector has the capability of being controlled by
a hand held pc via its inbuilt infra-red link. The detector’s
receiver window is located next to the three LED’s on the front
panel.
The infra-red communications link (IrDA) can override control at
any time as if it was an attached front panel.
If IrDA overrides the TCP/IP control (IrDA host sends a message
to take control) then the TCP/IP host will get an indication in the
status that there is an IrDA device controlling the detector and
the TCP/IP host will be locked out from controlling the detector.
There will be a status message in the software indicating the
state of the IrDA host control.
The hand held pc can control multiple detectors without conflict.
This is made possible because each detector has a unique IP
address. Simply point it at the detector to establish
communication. It needs to be line of sight and has a working
range of approximately one meter.
IrDA host control is automatically halted if the IrDA is not
sensed by the detector. The IrDA host can cancel control by
sending a message to the detector at any time.
Up to nine methods can be stored in the hand held pc’s memory.
This memory is volatile. Therefore, if its battery goes flat, the
method information will be lost.
