6.5.1 Guidelines for Use of Flow Cells
NOTICE—Sensitive flow cells
Flow cells are sensitive to damage and contamination.
• Handle flow cells with care.
• Observe the following guidelines for use of the flow cell.
Operating conditions
Make sure the following conditions are met while operating the flow
cell:
• Observe the specified maximum temperature limit and pressure
limit for the flow cell. See the specifications for flow cells in
Flow
Cells ( } page 173) . If your application requires column temperatures
above the specified maximum limit, install and use a post-column
cooler in the flow path before the flow cell.
• Allow the flow cell to warm up.
• The detector, the flow cell, and the inlet capillary are sensitive to
thermal changes in the environment. If the doors are opened during
analysis, the thermal changes may lead to a baseline drift. To avoid a
baseline drift, keep the detector doors closed and the flow cell cover
installed during analysis.
Eluates and Solvents
Observe the following guidelines for eluates and solvents:
• Particulate matter from the eluate, system modules and
components can deposit on the flow cell windows and in the
capillaries:

On the flow cell windows :
Can lead to an instable baseline behavior, such as increased
noise or drift, or can cause a wavelength calibration/validation
to fail.

In the internal capillary of the flow cell :
Can lead to a blockage of the internal capillary and to a
destruction of the flow cell.
