3.2 Operating Principle
The device is designed for ultraviolet (UV), visible (VIS) and near-infrared
(NIR) absorption spectroscopy in combination with HPLC or UHPLC
separations. After sufficient separation from other sample compounds,
the analysis of the target compound follows the Beer-Lambert law. This
means that the response of the detector is proportional to the:
• Concentration of the analyte
• Path length of the light in the sample
The following image shows the optics of the device, and illustrates how
the device operates:
