A tungsten lamp (1) as light source emits VIS and NIR light. The VIS
lens (2) focuses the light through an opening in the internal structure of
the deuterium lamp (3) that emits UV light. The achromat (4) focuses
the light beams from both lamps so that the beams pass through the
flow cell (5).
After exiting the flow cell, the light is focused by a lens (6), and, if the
motorized filter paddle (7) is in its open position, the light passes
through the entrance slit (8) to the grating (9). The grating diffracts the
light into the component wavelengths and leads the light to the
photodiode array (10) which measures the light. Each diode measures a
narrow portion of the spectrum. A spectrum is obtained by measuring
the light intensity of each diode and reporting the results over the
selected wavelength range.
