MODULAR SYSTEMS
1.
General Guidelines
a. Read and follow all venting, combustion
air, water piping, gas piping and electrical
instructions contained in this manual unless
otherwise instructed in this section.
b. Modular systems are complex. Design and
installation of modular systems should only
be undertaken by skilled and knowledgeable
engineers and contractors.
c. Consult Local Building Codes, National Fuel Gas
Code, or NFPA 54/ANSI Z223.1 for restrictions
and instructions for modular boilers.
d. Refer to the Pre-Installation section for further
warnings, cautions, notices and instructions.
2.
Module Sizing
Consult factory for recommended number and
size of boilers for a given input.
3.
Venting
a. Refer to Venting Section for sidewall and vertical
venting guidelines.
b. Each boiler requires an individual vent pipe.
c. The minimum horizontal distance between
vent terminations is one (1) foot. Additional
horizontal distance is desirable to avoid frost
damage to the building. Vent terminations must
be at least twelve (12) inches above the ground
plus the expected snow accumulation.
d.
IMPORTANT
: Refer to the Venting section
for further warnings, cautions, notices and
instructions.
4.
Air Intake Piping
a. Consult intake pipe manufacturer for common
air intake pipe sizing.
b. Refer to Figures 10 and 11 for common air intake
guidelines for modular boilers.
c. Individual air intake pipes may be used in lieu of
common air intake piping.
d. Common air intake straight lengths and fittings
should be assumed to have the equivalent length
the same as an individual air intake pipe, used for
a given boiler intake pipe diameter.
e. Position horizontal air intake termination center
line below horizontal vent termination's center
line.
f. Vertical air intake pipe must terminate at least
two (2) feet above the closest portion of the roof.
g.
IMPORTANT:
Refer to the Combustion Air
section for further warnings, cautions, notices
and instructions.
5.
Water Piping
a. Refer to Figure 12 for the recommended piping
arrangement on modular boiler systems. Refer
to Figures 13, 14, 15, 16 or 17 for alternate piping
arrangements on modular boiler systems.
b. Installing a low water cut-off in the system piping
is highly recommended and may be required by
Code, if not factory-mounted on boiler.
c. Refer to Table 1b for pressure drop for each
boiler.
d. Consult I=B=R Installation and Piping Guide.
e. Maintain ½" minimum distance between water
piping and combustible material.
f. Refer to Water Piping and Trim Section
for further warnings, cautions, notices and
instructions.
NOTICE
The pressure drop given in Table 1B is for the
boiler only. The pressure drop of each system
fitting and component must be added to the
boiler pressure drop to determine the system
pressure head requirement. See Table 5 for
fitting and component equivalent lengths.
CAUTION
Proper water treatment is required. The water
shall have a maximum water hardness of 8.5
grains or 150 ppm. The recommended pH range
is 8.8 to 9.2.
6.
Gas Piping
a. Refer to National Fuel Gas Code, Local Codes
and Tables 2 through 6 for gas pipe sizing.
b. Refer to Gas Piping Section for further warnings,
cautions, notices and instructions.
