SCSI Termination
All SCSI busses must be properly terminated at both ends. One end is terminated
automatically by on-board circuitry (SCSI Controller); the other end must be termi-
nated by the user. The TA64 supports two SCSI busses—SCSI A and SCSI B. The
SCSI-B bus is accessed through a port on the Front Panel and the SCSI-A bus is
accessed through the VME P2 connector (using a Paddle Board; see
Figure 1-2
)
behind the VME backplane.
Since the TA64 SCSI Controller is always at one end of both the SCSI A bus and the
SCSI B bus, the on-board SCSI A and SCSI B terminators are always enabled.
Note:
It is possible to determine solder-bead settings by reading the FPGA status
registers (see Chapter 5, "Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)").
Caution:
Although the TA64 ends of both SCSI busses are designed to be termi-
nated automatically, it is up to the user to properly terminate the device end of the
SCSI bus chain by locating and terminating the last device on the bus.
