7.0 General Information 

 
Teledyne Paradise Datacom 6RU SSPA units running firmware version 4.99 or later 
can be configured to form an internally controlled 1:2 Phase Combined redundancy 
system. 
 
This configuration provides switching and fault analysis logic as well as simultaneous 
mute and attenuation control of the three system SSPAs without the use of an external 
controller. 
 
In this mode, three amplifiers, two switches and a waveguide combiner comprise the 
system. The output power of two of the amplifiers is increased through the combiner. 
The output of the third amplifier is directed to a dummy load. If one of the two online 
amplifiers experiences a fault condition, the faulted amplifier is switched to the dummy 
load, and the standby amplifier is switched online. 
 

7.1 Theory of Operation 

 
Internal 1:2 Phase Combined mode allows both automatic and manual switchover to a 
standby SSPA in case one of the online units develops a fault condition. The system 
also allows the operator to manually select the online/standby status of each SSPA.  
 
The online/standby status of each SSPA can be verified by observing the “Unit 1” LED 
light on the front panel (see 

Figure 7-1

) or by browsing to the corresponding front  

panel menu display. SSPA status information is also available over remote control  
protocol.  

Note: 

Only an online amplifier can change its online status; pressing the 

Unit 1 key on the standby amplifier will not change the online/standby 
status.
