4.21 GPS (RTU3031C)
4.21.1 General
You configure the GPS functionality of the RTU here.
Activating GPS
Enable the option "Active" to enable the communication between the RTU and its
communications partner via GPS.
Result:
● Time synchronization via GPS can be activated under "System > System Time". See
section System time (Page 116).
Update cycle
● Reduction factor for basic cycle
The reduction factor lowers the update cycle for this input. With a factor of 2, for example,
the update cycle of this input is halved: The input is read only half as often as configured
in the basic cycle.
The reduction factor lowers the frequency of the update cycle for this input. The interval
between the update cycles is therefore increased.
You configure the basic cycle in "Operating mode > Update cycle".
If the "GPS always active" parameter is not enabled, a cycle time of at least 100 s must
be set as the lead time for cyclic GPS.
● GPS always active
The GPS functionality of the RTU is always activated, even when the RTU is in "sleep
mode". This is advantageous, for example, when GPS data should be read frequently,
because the lead time is reduced or completely omitted.
● Supply GPS from battery if external voltage fails
Requirement:
For the option to be active, power supply must be configured by means of "External
Power Supply" and "Battery Module". See section Power supply (Page 171).
The GPS functionality can thus be "shedded" (load shedding) if emergency operation
without GPS is sufficient with external supply and battery (e.g. if only reachability needs
to be guaranteed).
