4.18.1 Operating modes
You will find the description of the Operating modesin the section Modes and operating
modes (Page 21).
Note
Power consumption
Note that frequent update and communication cycles increase the power consumption of the
RTU greatly. This applies in particular when there is permanent booking into the mobile
wireless network, when there are frequent queries of the GPS position (RTU3031C) and
when the LAN interface is frequently activated.
Update mode
● Basic cycle
Use the drop-down list to define the basic cycle (1 second..7 days) for updating the inputs
and outputs.
In every cycle, the RTU interrupts the sleep mode, reads the inputs, processes the
program blocks and updates the outputs.
● Start time of the update cycle
Synchronizes the update cycle with this time of day.
● Start day of the update cycle
Synchronizes the update cycle with this day.
The option is only available if "7 days" is configured as the basic cycle.
● Additional update cycles
Using the drop-down list, you specify whether 1 to 3 additional update cycles in addition
to every configured basic cycle are run through to execute the program again. In the
additional cycles the program is executed.
The inputs are not read in the additional cycles.
If you select "0" only the basic cycle is used.
Communication mode
In the cycle configured here, the RTU activates all the interfaces and services used,
establishes a connection to its communications partner and sends all buffered messages
and files. In every cycle, the RTU interrupts the sleep mode.
You configure the communications partner on the WBM page "TeleControl". There you will
find further parameters for the transfer settings on the page of the protocol, being used.
A connection is always established by the RTU. With the DNP3 and IEC protocol the master
instigates connection establishment.
