How to mount the encoder wheel
The encoder wheel measures the movement of the transport system. An exact mounting of
the encoder wheel is crucial for a good print quality. Make sure to adhere to the following
guidelines when mounting the encoder wheel:
•
If possible attach the encoder mounting to one of the print unit profiles (see Figure
12).
•
Mount the encoder wheel so that the wheel turns counter-clockwise as shown in
Figure 13.
•
The encoder wheel must be installed in a way that it can run unimpeded on the
transport belt (B).
•
The encoder wheel must be able to run without slippage.
•
The encoder wheel should be installed as close as possible to the first print unit.
•
The encoder wheel should be installed on the same conveyor device as the print units
are mounted on (A).
•
The encoder wheel should not come into contact with the print medium. Make sure to
consider all possible print medium formats (D).
•
The encoder wheel must run parallel to the transport system (E).
•
The encoder wheel has to be placed on a even section of the transport system. Not
on any holes or grooves in the transport system (C).
•
The encoder wheel should not be placed on any cylinder that turns around the belt,
since the speed of the belt is different there as on the flat area of the belt (F).
Check of encoder mounting
You should check the way the encoder runs by printing the test
pattern number 2. For a detailed instruction on how to print this
pattern see chapter Encoder Pattern on page 112.
Calibrating the
encoder
After mounting the encoder you can calibrate the encoder if necessary.
For a detailed instruction on how to calibrate the encoder see chapter
ADJUSTMENT ENCODER, on page 72.
