How to mount the print unit(s)
Despending the configuration, a
Quadient
AS-Orbit can have up to four print units. Each
print unit holds three print cartridges. The three cartridges sum up to a print swath of 38
mm / 1 ½" per print unit. See Figure 7 for a sample installation with four print units and a
transport direction from left to right. The mounting of each of these print units should
fulfil the following requirements:
•
Each print unit must be positioned exactly parallel to the product moving under the
print unit (see Figure 8).
•
Each print unit must be positioned exactly at a right angle to the transport direction
of the belt (see Figure 8).
•
Each print unit should be placed on the same segment of the machine. (E.g. same
conveyor device).
•
No parts of the transport system (e.g. fingers, chains, rollers etc.) must touch the
print unit.
•
It must be possible to move each print unit on its mounting bar, so that the topmost
and bottom parts of the print medium can be reached in order to print there.
•
The knurled screw to fasten the position and the adjustment wheel to adjust the
height of the print unit must be easily reachable on each mounting bar.
•
In configurations with more than one print unit, it is recommended to mount the print
units using the default distance of 164,9 mm / 6.49" between two units. In case it is
not possible to use the default distance, make sure not to exceed the maximum
distance of 200 mm / 7.87".
•
The distance between the print units determines the minimal paper format that can
be processed by the printer. Please see chapter 11.8 Determining the minimal
possible paper format, on page 198 for a detailed description.
•
Consider the maximum distance between the print units and the control unit due to
the length of the SCSI-3 cable connecting them (<< 1.000 mm / 39.4”).
