Wheels and Tires
In addition to correct tire inflation pressure and cor-
rect wheel alignment, the service life of the tires also
depends on your driving style. Abrupt acceleration,
high cornering speeds and heavy braking increase
tire wear. Moreover, tread wear is increased at high
outside temperatures and on rough road surfaces.
Complying with load and speed
requirements
e
Drive at an appropriate speed.
e
Do not overload the vehicle and pay attention to
the roof load.
>
Please see chapter "Technical Data" on page 334.
Checking tire pressure
NOTICE
Insufficient tire pressure can cause tires to overheat
and thus be damaged – even invisibly
e
Hidden tire damage is not eliminated by subse-
quently correcting the tire pressure.
e
Never let air out of hot tires. When tires are
warm, the tire pressure is increased. This could
cause the tire pressure to fall below the pre-
scribed value.

Please see chapter "Technical Data" on page 334.
When tires are warm, the tire pressure is increased.
e
Never let air out of hot tires. This could cause the
tire pressure to fall below the prescribed value.
Insufficient tire pressure can cause tires to overheat
and thus be damaged – even invisibly. Hidden tire
damage is not eliminated by subsequently correct-
ing the tire pressure.

Vehicle load limit
Is the maximum total weight limit specified of the load
(passengers and cargo) for the vehicle. This is the max-
imum weight of passengers and cargo that can be
loaded into the vehicle.

Recommended cold tire inflation pressure
These values are for cold tires (68 °F (20 °C)).

Checking tire pressure with a
pressure gauge
1.
Remove the valve stem cap from the tire.
2.
3.
Press the pressure gauge onto the valve stem.
Read the tire pressure on the gauge stem and
compare it to the permissible tire pressure. This
information can be found on the tire pressure
plate or in the chapter “Technical Data”.

reasons,

DANGER
Low tire pressure
Driving the vehicle with low tire pressure increases
the risk of tire failure and resulting loss of control.
Furthermore, low tire pressure increases the rate of
wear of the affected tires and causes damage.
e
Always use an accurate tire pressure gauge when
checking inflation pressures.
e
Do not exceed the maximum tire pressure listed
on the tire side wall.
e
Cold tire inflation pressure means: all tires must
be cold, ambient temperature maximum 68 °F
(20 °C), when adjusting the inflation pressure.
Avoid sunlight striking the tires before measuring
cold pressures, since the pressures would rise
from temperature influence.
e
Check the tire pressure at least monthly when
the tires are cold.
e
Valve caps protect the valve from dust and dirt
and thus from leakage. Always screw caps down
tightly.
Replace
missing
caps
immediately.
