Front Axle Lift System
With the front axle lift system, the front end can be
raised by around 1.57 in. (40 mm) (leading edge of
the front spoiler). This helps prevent damage to the
bodywork, such as when entering underground
parking garages or crossing speed bumps.
Operational readiness and
behavior
– The front axle lift system can be activated when
the engine is running and the vehicle is station-
ary or, within the system limits, when it is trav-
eling at a speed of up to approx. 20 mph (
35 km/h) (or up to approx. 40 mph (60 km/h),
depending on the country).
– The vehicle is automatically lowered to the nor-
mal level again at speeds above the system
limits.
– When the vehicle is raised, the damping charac-
teristics of the front axle change and noises can
be heard coming from the front axle when the
steering wheel is turned.
– At temperatures below approx. 14 °F / -10 °C it
may take longer to fully raise the front end of the
vehicle. In addition, noise levels can be higher.

NOTICE
There is a risk of damage if the front end is lowered
inadvertently.
Because of the system design, the front end lowers
automatically after a certain time when the engine is
stopped.
e
The vehicle must always be lowered before it is
switched off.

Information
If a door is opened while the vehicle is being lowered,
the front end is raised again automatically.
NOTICE
Risk of damage if the vehicle hits an obstacle.
e
Do not lower the vehicle when positioned over an
obstacle.
Malfunctions in the lift system
Malfunctions in the front axle lift system are indi-
cated in the instrument cluster.

Please see chapter "Warning and Information
Automatic lift function
With the automatic lift function, the front end can be
raised automatically based on the location.
NOTICE
The system must not induce you to take risks with
your safety. Responsibility when driving, such as
choosing an appropriate speed, remains with the
driver. The automatic lift function is no substitute for
the driver's attentiveness.
Even with the lift system fully extended, contact
with an obstacle cannot be prevented if the driving
speed is inappropriate.
Situations may arise in which a saved location is not
recognized and the automatic lift function is not
executed.
If there is a fault in the lift system, the automatic lift
function may not be executed.
e
Make sure that the front end raises when ap-
proaching taught locations.
e
Drive over the obstacle at an appropriate speed.
