Driving safety systems

Braking

If ABS cuts in while you are braking,
the

v

ABS/ESP

®

warning lamp in the

speedometer flashes. You will not feel the
brake pedal pulsating as this happens.

When ABS is activated:

왘

Depress the brake pedal with more
force until the braking situation is over.

When the brakes are fully applied:

왘

Depress the brake pedal with maxi-
mum force.

BAS (Brake Assist System)

BAS operates in emergency braking situa-
tions. If you depress the brake pedal quick-
ly, BAS automatically increases the brake
force of the brakes and thus shortens the
stopping distance.

왘

Continue to depress the brake pedal
firmly until the emergency situation is
over.

ABS prevents the wheels from locking.

When you release the brake pedal, the
brakes will work as normal again. BAS is
then deactivated.

Risk of accident

G

Always adapt your driving style to suit the
prevailing road and weather conditions and
maintain a sufficient distance from other
road users and objects on the road.

If ABS malfunctions, BAS and ESP

®

are also

deactivated.

If ABS malfunctions, the wheels could lock
when you brake. This limits the steerability
of the vehicle and may lengthen the stop-
ping distance.
