Technical terms

EMC

(Electromagnetic Compatibility)
The electrical and electronic compo-
nents of the vehicle are protected from
interference fields, such as radio trans-
mitters, radar systems, current con-
ductors or radiophones.

EN 228

European standard for unleaded petrol.

Engine control

Controls the engine, e.g. the engine
speed.

Engine number

Number determined by the manufac-
turer and marked on the cylinder
crankcase, by which each engine can
be clearly identified.

Engine oil viscosity

Measure of the internal oil friction (vis-
cosity) at different temperatures. The
higher the temperature the oil can tol-
erate without thinning too much, or the
lower the temperature it can tolerate
without thickening too much, the bet-
ter the viscosity characteristics of the
oil.

ESP

®

(Electronic Stability Program)
Improves driving stability and ->trac-
tion when accelerating and cornering.

Instrument cluster

Displays and indicator lamps in the
driver's field of vision, e.g. the rev
counter, the speedometer and the fuel
gauge.

Interior motion sensor

This is one of the vehicle's anti-theft
systems. It triggers an alarm if some-
one reaches into the vehicle when its
doors are closed and locked.

Kickdown

In vehicles with automatic transmis-
sion, the ->transmission is shifted
down to the lowest possible gear by de-
pressing the accelerator pedal beyond
the pressure point. This accelerates
the vehicle faster.

LIM indicator lamp

(Limiter)
Indicator lamp in the cruise control
lever which indicates whether the

activated.
