Using Mirror and Linked Repositories
È
IMPORTANT:
If the mirror repository is at the end of a slow WAN link,
machines in that network must use Pull Off Install or Batch Install (not
Push On Install).
Push On Install always operates from the master repository, forcing data
to cross the WAN.
Using linked repositories
An organization that has several people responsible for anti-virus measures
might have more than one copy of the Management Edition program installed
on the same network. When each installation adds new software to the
individual repositories, each administrator must have access to the anti-virus
software CD, or a copy of its files somewhere on the network.
By linking repositories, an installation can receive updates to its repository
(the child) from another repository (the parent). The parent repository can be
a master repository or a mirror repository, or even another child repository.
The repositories can therefore be organized as several levels. This allows
multiple levels, as in this example:
Protocol in use
Port to filter
IPX 0x8589
(hex),
34185
decimal.
TCP/IP
0x1254 (hex), 4692 decimal.
