Updating Your Anti-virus Software

Choosing an update method

You can choose from three different methods—Push On, Pull Off, and Batch
Install—for installing your anti-virus software onto member machines. The
different methods affect how quickly the member machines receive their
upgrades and how long the Management Console is busy servicing those
requests.

NOTE:

To install anti-virus software onto a NetWare server that does not

have access to an existing repository on a NetWare server, you must use
the Push On Install method. You can use any of the three installation
methods to install to a NetWare server after you have installed at least
one mirror repository on a NetWare server because other NetWare
servers can then update from it.

The anti-virus components must already be installed in the Repository. For
more details, see

“Installing anti-virus components in the Repository” on page

Using the Push On Install

When installing or upgrading a member machine, Push On Install copies the
management and anti-virus components from the Repository. You can select
various components to install on single machines, member groups, or whole
anti-virus domains.

Although it is the quickest method of upgrading a member machine, Push On
installation keeps the Management Console busy for longer than the other two
methods. Therefore, this method is not recommended for upgrading large
numbers of machines simultaneously after the initial installation has been
performed.
