Partitioning the Disk(s) to be Used for Sybase Using Raw Partitions

Defining Partition 7 (Optional)
If you have not used the entire disk for Sybase devices, define Partition 7 using the
remaining unallocated space:
1.
At the
partition
prompt, enter
to view the partition table.
2.
Locate the “Total disk cylinders available” line in the partition table. Make a note
of the number next to this line.
Do not
use the number next to reserved cylinders.
Figure 3-3 on page 3-12
is an example of an 8.49-GB disk drive.
3.
Subtract the Partition 6 ending cylinder number from the “Total disk cylinders
available” number, then subtract 1. Make a note of this number.
4.
At the
partition
prompt, enter
7

5.
At the
Enter partition id tag
prompt, enter
unassigned
.
6.
At the
Enter partition permission flags
prompt, enter
wm
.
7.
At the
Enter new starting cyl[xxxx]:

Verifying Partition Sizes
Follow the steps below to verify the partition sizes for the Sybase disk:
1.
At the
partition
prompt, enter print to view the final partition table. Confirm
that the cylinders are contiguous for partition 0, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. (Partition 7 will
be contiguous only if it was defined.)
2.
At the
partition
prompt, enter
quit
.
3.
At the
format
prompt, label and save the partitions by entering
label
.
4.
At the
Ready to label disk
prompt, enter
y
.
5.
If you are using a two-disk configuration, at the
format
prompt, enter
quit
.
If you are using more than two disks, at the
format
prompt, enter
disk
and
proceed to
step 3 on page 3-4
to partition the next disk to be used for Sybase.
6.
Proceed to
“Loading the Lucent-supplied Sybase 12.5.0.1 CD-ROM” on
page 3-13
