IGNITION  SYSTEM

lgnition  is  of  che  high  tension  alternator  type:  rotating  in

ductor  and  stationary  armature.  The  inductor  consists  of  a

permanent  magnet  housed  on  the  flywheel  periphery.

The  armature  is  formed  by  che  ccii,  secured  to  the  crankcase.
The coi

consists of  primary  (low  tension)  and  secondary  (high

tension)  circuits  wound  on  a  pack of stampings.

Magnet  rotaticn  produces  a  change  of  magnet  flux  linkage  in

the  ccii,  which  causes  by  induction  a  low  voltage  tension  to

build  up  in  the  primary  winding.

Breaker points open  the  primary  winding  circuit  with  a  sudden

collapsing  of  the  fìeld  set  up  around  the  windings,  thus  by  in

duction  a  high  tension  crrent  is  sent  through  to  the  plug

electrodes:  spark  occurs  due  to  electrode  gap  bridging.

To  prevent  breaker  points  arcing  with  consequent  points  burn
ing,  a  condenser  is  connected  in  parallel.  Condenser  also  helps
to  obtain  a  high  tension  ignition  current  by  rapidly  stopping
flow  of  current  in  the  primary  winding.
