Simplex document feed
For multiple simplex document sheets, feed is performed in the following sequence:
1.
The first document sheet is fed to the ADF pick roll assembly.
2.
The document sheet is fed to the separation roller, and then fed to the feed roller.
3.
The document sheet is fed at the feed speed corresponding to the selected resolution, and the image
on it is scanned with the CIS scan bar at the scan area.
4.
After the image is scanned, the document sheet is fed and ejected by the ADF exit rollers that are
driven by the ADF transport motor.
5.
When the trail edge of the first document sheet releases the separation nip, the feed of the
succeeding document sheet starts.
Duplex document feed
For multiple duplex document sheets, feed is performed in the following sequence:
1.
The first document sheet is fed to the ADF pick roll assembly.
2.
The document sheet is fed to the separation roller assembly, and then fed to the feed roller.
3.
The document sheet is fed at the feed speed corresponding to the selected resolution, and the image
on it is scanned with the CIS scan bar at the scan area.
4.
After the image is scanned on both sides, the document sheet is fed and ejected by the exit rollers
that are driven by the ADF transport motor.
5.
When the trail edge of the first document sheet releases the separation nip, the feed of the
succeeding document sheet starts.
Scanning
Once the leading edge of the media hits the paper path sensor arm, a signal is sent to the system board. This
indicates the start of the scanning process. There are certain step counts that relate the paper movement before
the CIS scan bar starts to scan. The paper size that is set in the control panel will dictate the CIS scan bar when
to stop scanning. The paper will continue to be fed until it exits, regardless of what paper size is set in the control
panel. Once all the document sheets are fed, scanned, and exited; and the paper load sensor is not triggered,
the system will detect that the tray is empty. This causes the motor to turn in reverse direction and the pick roller
to rotate upward—waiting for the next scan job to happen.
Document scanning from the flatbed
The flatbed scanner works by scanning the document on the glass plate per line on a horizontal direction moving
from left to right. It uses a CIS scan bar to convert an analog signal (image of the document) to a digital signal
ready for scanning or creating a copy. The CIS scan bar sits on top of a carriage unit that is pulled using a belt
and a DC motor. Before scanning, the CIS scan bar seeks its base position that is a white strip under the glass
plate. Once it is in the base position, the system will time the spin of the DC motor so that the scan bar will move
based on the paper size that was set from the control panel. When the scan bar has reached the end of the set
paper size, it moves back to its base position.
Once the document is fully scanned, the system card processes the data. It recreates a digital copy of the
image, which can be displayed on the PC as a scan output, printed for a copy job, or sent electronically for a fax
job.
