The CONSOLE PORT , an RJ-8 socket, is located in the Front Panel to provide an RS-232 interface at
38.4 kbps for a PC that will act as a Console Terminal to configure the STEs. The CONSOLE PORT pin-
outs are provided in Table 2-10 .

A Console Cable (p/n K10047819-1), shipped with the STE, connects between the CONSOLE PORT and
a DB-9 serial port on the PC. Should the need arise to construct a replacement for the Console Cable,
Table 2-11 provides the pin-outs.

2-3.3 Red Audio Port Pre-Installation Requirements
The Red Audio Port pre-installation requirements apply to the CEU, STE-RI and STE-RT.
The
RED AUDIO PORT , an RJ-8 socket, is located on the left side of the STEs. The pin assignments are
shown in Table 2-12 .

The port consists of differential analog audio input and output signals. The audio input signals are biased
at 10 volts relative to each other with a source resistance of 650 ohms (AUDIO IN + at positive 5 volts and
AUDIO OUT – at negative 5 volts, relative to STE-R Common). The AUDIO IN Driver should be AC
coupled (capacitors or transformer). The interface specifications are provided in
Table 2-13 . You are
required to provide all material for your switch and connection to the STE.
