Configuration
To configure the ISDN line for use with STE-8510, the local Telephone Company or plant switch service
must be contacted to provide the proper ISDN line and features needed by you. The next sections
discuss the proper ISDN line configuration for the switch, selecting and configuring features on the switch
and configuring the STE to work properly with the switch configuration.
9-7.2.1 5ESS Switch Configuration
The STE-8510 switch type setting should only be used when shared call appearances, intercom, visual
message waiting indicator or other special features are required that are supported only under STE-8510.
To configure a line from a 5ESS switch to work with the STE, the following order information must be
provided to the service provider to ensure proper operation. This information is based on terminal
specific entries on the Verizon ISDN-BRI Order Document.
•
The application will be for voice, electronic key features and interactive data exchange.
•
The Type of ISDN can be either single line business (SLB), residence or, for most users, Centrex.
•
The pipe configuration should be 2B+D, Multipoint.
•
Bearer services should be B1: CSV, CSD, B2: CSD, MAX B=2, CSV=Any, CSD=Any for SLB,
residence or Centrex.
•
A recommended Bell Atlantic Configuration group is BASTD25C, which supports multiple call
appearances and intercom. This only applies to single line business where there is no local
appropriate configuration group.
•
The Electronic Key Feature Package should be selected when ordering for SLB or residence.
These features are included in the Centrex configuration.
•
Electronic Key Features that may be selected are described in sections 9-4.1 and 0.
•
The terminal type is D (Custom).
•
The NT1 selection should be “Stand Alone” if the NT1 ISDN interface converter is connected at
the STE. The NT1 selection should be “Rack Mounted” if the NT1 ISDN interface converter is
included with the location’s telecom equipment. The NT1 selection should not be set to “Built into
CPE” as the STE provide an S/T interface only. A U interface is provided by the service provider
and must be converted using an NT1.
•
The Power Supplied By should be “Built into CPE/PC.
•
The following configuration suggestions will help to ensure the STE is correctly configured. They
may be helpful when ordering service and features.
•
In general, terms the service requested should be Custom Multipoint. The STE requires a
multipoint line in all configurations, even with a single phone number/SPID.
•
The STE must be the only device on the ISDN BRI line.
•
The STE-8510 is supported as 5ESS custom, Terminal Type D only.
•
The service should contain 1 circuit switched voice and 2 circuit switched data channels.
•
Only one phone number/SPID should be used for the STE to work properly. If a second SPID is
required, no call appearance or feature buttons should be assigned to the line associated with the
second SPID, otherwise interference with the first SPID will occur.
•
Call appearances and shared call appearances must be assigned to call appearance/feature
buttons 1 through 6 only. DO NOT ASSIGN call appearances to call appearance/feature buttons
7 through 10. Doing so will cause unstable operation, missed calls and possible terminal lockups.
•
The value of the last call appearance must be programmed into the STE. The last call
appearance value programmed into the STE must be consistent with the last call appearance
programmed at the switch. If this value is not set, call appearances higher than 3 will not be
accessible.
•
Call appearances and shared call appearances must be assigned in contiguous order on feature
buttons 1 through 6. Feature buttons may not be interspersed with call appearances. For
example, call appearance buttons 1, 2 and 3 can be assigned to the primary directory number.
Call appearance buttons 4 and 5 can be assigned to shared call appearances.
Call appearance/feature buttons 6 through 8 can be used as lighted feature buttons.
Call appearance/feature buttons 9 and 10 can only be used for features that do not require LEDs
