10-2.1.1 Computer Requirements
In order for the personal computer to load programs and operate efficiently, it should meet the following
requirements:
•
Pentium class 266 MHz or better computer
•
64 MB memory (minimum) or more recommended
•
CD-ROM to load drivers, etc.
•
14 inch or larger SVGA monitor set to 1024 x 768, small font. The software can be operated on a
VGA monitor if required.
•
64 MB memory (minimum) or more recommended
•
Windows 95, 98, 2000 or Windows NT 4.0 and higher
•
One available COMM Port (COMM 1 through COMM 15)
•
A Laptop computer meeting the general requirements listed above may also be used
•
For interface to an Office or Tactical STE, an interface cable with one end compatible with the
computer’s selected COMM port and the other end compatible with the STE’s
RED SERIAL
DATA PORT
connector.
•
For interface to a CEU, Data STE, STE-R, STE-RI, or STE-RT, an interface cable with one end
compatible with the computer’s selected COMM port and the other end compatible with the STE’s
CONSOLE PORT
connector.
10-2.1.2 STE Toolset Installation
The STE Toolset software must be installed, not copied, onto the host computer since it requires DLL files
not normally supplied by the operating system. Follow the installation instructions supplied with the
distribution media. The STE Toolset expects its support files to be in the same directory as the
executable. This will occur as part of the installation. Do not move individual files to a different location
unless the entire directory is moved.
The interface cable must be connected to an available COMM Port (COMM 1 through COMM 15) on the
host computer. It is expected that the host computer will be used with multiple STE units so the
connection to the appropriate STE connector will be site specific (roll-around computer with loose cable
end, stationary computer with patch panel, etc).
