Remote Control Operations
Rel. 2.6
8-11
When used for initial dialing, upon receiving the ATDn command, the STE goes off-hook and dials “n”
which can include any of the sixteen dial characters (0-9, #, *, and AUTOVON call precedence levels A,
B, C, and D and the following modifiers: P, T, W, comma, period, and semi-colon. If the terminal is off-
hook, it just sends the dial digits and/or modifiers. Any unsupported character in the dial string is ignored.
If in Japan PSTN mode, and the dialed number is blacklisted, the STE returns the result code
45/BLACKLISTED; UNABLE TO PLACE CALL; TRY LATER. The ATDn command causes the STE to
enter the Connecting State and set bit 7 of register S17 to a 1 unless a semicolon is encountered in the
dialing string (n).
If the STE is in the command state with an active call, upon receiving the ATDn command, the STE dials
“n” which can include any of the sixteen secure dial characters (0-9, #, *, and AUTOVON call precedence
levels A, B, C, and D). Any unsupported character in the secure dial string is ignored. The ATDn
command can contain up to a maximum of 32 valid characters. If in a STU-III call, an error result code is
returned if the far-end is not capable of accepting secure dial digits, otherwise an OK result code is
returned. For STE and SCIP calls, an OK result code is returned regardless.
Table 8-5. ATDn Command Codes - Dial Parameters
Parameter Description
A Dial
Flash
Override
Upon receiving the “A” parameter after the “D” command, the STE dials with the
precedence code “flash override”. This command is for use with a network that
supports MLPP.
B
Dial Flash
Upon receiving the “B” parameters after the “D” command, the STE dials with
the precedence code “flash”. This command is for use with a network that
supports MLPP.
C Dial
Immediate
Upon receiving the “C” parameters after the “D” command, the STE dials with
the precedence code “immediate”. This command is for use with a network that
supports MLPP.
D
Dial Priority
Upon receiving the “D” parameters after the “D” command, the STE dials with
the precedence code “priority”. This command is for use with a network that
supports MLPP.
P
Pulse Dialing Upon receiving the “P” parameter anytime after the “D” command, the STE
changes to pulse dialing.
T
Tone Dialing
Upon receiving the “T” parameter anytime after the “D” command, the STE
changes to tone dialing.
W
Wait for Dial
tone
For PSTN:
If the W is in the dialing string before a dialing character (0-9, #, *, A, B, C, D)
then the X setting defined in S22 will be ignored and the value in S7 will be
used as the timeout value for dial tone detection. If dial tone is detected before
the timer expires, processing of the dial string will continue. If dial tone has not
been detected when the timer expires, the call is terminated.
If a dialing character (0-9, #, *, A, B, C, D) is detected in the dialing string before
a W is detected, then dial tone detection is set based on the X setting in S22 as
follows:
If X is set to 0, 1, or 3, then dial tone detection is disabled. A timer based upon
the value in S6 is set prior to dialing. When the timer expires, processing of the
dial string continues.
If X is set to 2 or 4, then dial tone detection is enabled and the value in S7 is
used as the timeout value for dial tone detection. If dial tone is detected before
the timer expires, processing of the dial string continues. If dial tone has not
been detected when the timer expires, the call is terminated.
For ISDN, TRI-TAC, and BDI:
Dial tone detection is always disabled for these switch types. If a W is
encountered in the dial string, it is ignored. There is a fixed delay for these
switch types as follows:
