CHAPTER 1 PRIMEQUEST Overview
The Management Board (MMB) is a feature that manages the PRIMEQUEST
hardware as a whole. The MMB can be connected to the MMB console, the Field
Support Tool (FST), and the Internet via a LAN. The MMB console is a console used
to configure or display the hardware resource settings. The FST is a console used by
maintenance personnel to maintain the PRIMEQUEST hardware. It is connected to
the Remote Customer Support System (REMCS) via the Internet or a P-to-P
connection to remotely monitor the unit status.
The Gigabit Switch Board (GSWB) is a Gigabit-Ethernet-compatible switching hub.
GSWBs are used to construct business LANs.
The clock and PCI_Box control board (CPCB) is a component with two functions:
one is to generate system clock signals and send them to PRIMEQUEST hardware,
and the other is to control a PCI_Box and uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
The KVM interface unit (KVM) is a feature used to connect devices including the
keyboard, display, and mouse.
1.1.1.1 Hardware components
The main PRIMEQUEST components include the SB, IO_Unit, crossbar, MMB, and
GSWB.

System boards (SBs) are boards on which CPUs, memory modules, PRIMEQUEST-
dedicated chipsets, and other components are mounted. The PRIMEQUEST 480 can
contain up to eight SBs and the PRIMEQUEST 440 can contain up to four SBs within
the cabinet.
One SB can accommodate one to four CPUs. Therefore, the PRIMEQUEST 480 can
contain up to 32 CPUs and the PRIMEQUEST 440 can contain up to 16 CPUs in
total. One SB can contain up to 64 GB of memory. This means that the
PRIMEQUEST 480 can contain up to 512 GB of memory and the PRIMEQUEST
440 can contain up to 256 GB of memory.
IO_Units are boards on which hard disk drives (HDDs), PCI card slots, and other
components are mounted. The PRIMEQUEST 480 can contain up to eight IO_Units
and the PRIMEQUEST 440 can contain up to four IO_Units within the cabinet. One
IO_Unit can contain four HDDs. This means that the PRIMEQUEST 480 can contain
up to 32 HDDs (4.70 TB) and the PRIMEQUEST 440 can contain up to 16 HDDs
(2.35 TB). To accommodate PCI cards, the PRIMEQUEST 480 has 32 PCI card slots
and the PRIMEQUEST 440 has 16 PCI card slots. By using PCI_BOXes (optional),
you can add additional PCI card slots.
