The open-circuit voltage of the battery occurs ap-
prox. 10 hours after the last charging process or
one hour after the last discharge.

After each charging process allow the battery
to rest for one hour before taking it into service.
l
For resting periods of more than one month
you should always disconnect the battery. Do
not forget to perform regular open-circuit volt-
age measurements.

Open the maintenance door to the battery
compartment (Fig. 278).

Pull the carrier plate with batteries (2) (Fig.
279) completely out, release the lock to do so.
l
Turn the tommy screw (1) anti-clockwise.
l
Press the locking button and turn the tommy
screw back clockwise.
l
Release the locking button and turn the tommy
screw anti-clockwise, until the lock is released.

Caution
Exhausted batteries (batteries with formation
of sulphate on the plates are not covered un-
der warranty!

Clean battery poles and terminal clamps (Fig.
280) and grease them with pole grease (Vase-
line).
l
Retighten the pole clamps.
l
Check the fastening of the battery.
l
On serviceable batteries check the acid level,
if necessary top up to the filling mark with dis-
tilled water.
