1.3 PURPOSE

COMPACT
Main function:
Temporary and spontaneous aspiration of secretions, blood and
body fluids that typically arise during suctioning of the airways.
Medical indication / application:
Suctioning of the upper airways.
Specification of the main functions:
Drainage and temporary collection of body secretions. A
vacuum is generated by means of an electric suctioning pump.
The integrated secretion container enables temporary collection
of the body secretions that have been drained off.
Application organ:
Upper airways (oral cavity, nasopharyngeal space) and
bronchial system.
Duration of application:
Temporary application in patients undergoing suctioning of the
airways (operating time of the battery up to 60 minutes).
Application environment:
The application environment for airway suctioning is the clinical,
medical practice, nursing and homecare field. Application must
only be carried out by medically trained and briefed persons.
Contraindication:
Not suitable for:
•
continuous operation in connection with drainage in the
low-vacuum range (e.g. thoracic drainage or wound
drainage),
• long-lasting use in connection with endoscopy,
• use outside of the medical field,
•
aspiration of flammable, caustic or explosive substances,
•
suctioning in areas exposed to explosion hazards.

COMPACT is an active medical device.
Reprocessing:
The product is intended for repeated use. The accessories are
partly reusable. For information on reprocessing, cleaning and
disinfection, refer to instructions for use (see Section 6.0).

COMPACT must not be used:
• for continuous operation in connection with drainage in the low-vacuum range (e.g. thoracic drainage)
or long-lasting use in connection with endoscopy;
• outside of the medical field (for aspiration of flammable, caustic or explosive liquids/gases).

1.2 FUNCTION
• TRACHEOPORT
®
COMPACT is a particularly handy
small-size suctioning device.
• The device is powered by a maintenance-free electric swing-
piston pump. When in operation, the pump generates a
vacuum in the tubing system and in the secretion container,
with the aid of which secretions or rinsing fluids are suctioned
off (via a sterile suction catheter).
• The fluid is collected in the secretion container.
• The final vacuum, and thus also the suction power, can be
adjusted with the aid of the fine control and the vacuum
gauge.
• A bacterial filter prevents intrusion of bacteria into the inside
of the unit.
•
In addition, a mechanical overflow protector (float) integrated
on the lid of the secretion container prevents accidental
aspiration of secretions into the pump head.
