VCU has detected a discontinuity
in the high voltage interlock loop
(HVIL).
1) Software HVIL fault.
2) Analog HVIL fault.

The purpose of the HVIL is to provide a warning if
any HV connector is unplugged without the HV
distribution being safely ended. The vehicle uses two
different methods to detect unplugged connectors,
software HVIL and analog HVIL (explained below).
Error F0063 will be triggered regardless of whether
the fault is detected by software HVIL or analog
HVIL.
The software HVIL strategy is used by certain
onboard equipment including the DCDC, A/C
compressor, TMS, air brake compressor, and BMS.
These devices monitor their HV connectors locally
and alert the VCU via CAN if a connector is
unplugged. If this is the case, a specific error
message (F0026, F0139, F0140, F0142, F0143,
F0144, or F0146) will be raised and the technician
should troubleshoot the specific error.
In contrast, other onboard equipment is connected to
the analog HVIL, which is a physical circuit that runs
through various HV connectors on the vehicle. If a
connector is unplugged unsafely, the HVIL will be
broken and the VCU will detect the loss of signal
voltage on the circuit. Because the analog HVIL is a
single series circuit, the VCU will detect the
presence of a discontinuity but not its location. The
technician should consult the analog HVIL
troubleshooting subtree.
If an HVIL fault occurs while in driving mode, the
VCU will alert the driver immediately and then, after
a delay of 1 hour, the VCU will request to open
contactors to shut down the vehicle and isolate the
high voltage system. If the fault occurs in charging
mode, the contactors will be opened immediately. In
either case, the vehicle is prohibited from restarting
until the error is cleared.
One or more of F0061, F0062, and F0063 may be
raised depending on the circumstances in which the
fault occurred:
•
F0061 HVIL fault prevents closing of
contactors if fault occurs prior to closing of
contactors (only possible for analog HVIL).
HVIL fault will open contactors immediately if
in charging mode or if fault is detected within
the first 5 seconds of entering driving mode.
Also, HVIL fault will open contactors in
driving mode when the park brake is applied
continuously for 3 seconds.
•
F0062 is raised upon attempted startup of
the vehicle when an HVIL fault was detected
prior to startup, including on a previous key
cycle.
•
F0063 is raised immediately if an HVIL fault
occurs while in driving mode.
