VCU-HMI System

Component descriptions

VCU

The Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) is the main

processing unit which monitors and controls most of

the systems and equipment on the vehicle. It is

other equipment either through the CAN network or

through dedicated LV connections.

HMI

The Human-Machine Interface (HMI) is an

interactive display in the cab which allows the driver

or maintenance operator to perform vehicle control

functions as well as access operational data and

error messages. It is powered by 12V low voltage

and communicates with the VCU through the CAN

network.

Supervisory Controller

The Supervisory controller is a secondary safety

controller which monitors safety-critical signals on

the vehicle and shuts down the high voltage system

of the vehicle if the VCU fails to take appropriate

action. It is connected to four CAN networks, CAN A

– CAN D.
